Swedish Knife Bayonet for M/1894/14 Carbine and M/1945C SMG
The M/1914 bayonet got produced by Eskilstuna Jernmanufactur AB og Carl Gustaf Stads Gevärsfaktori in Sweden. The number of produced bayonets is unknown, but the bayonet is easy to find in Norway and Sweden.
M/1914 bayonet
At first it was not intended to deliver the M/1894 carbines with bayonets. But the Swedish military authorities later found out that they needed bayonet for the rifle. Therefore the carbine was modified by adding a bayonet lug. The unusual design on the handle of bayonet reveals that it got produced for a firearm, that was not originally designed to accept a bayonet.
M/1914 with cavalry used frog
The short M/1945 SMG (submachine gun) also lacked the bayonet lug, and need a adaptor to attach a bayonet.
The handle got two wooden grips, and two spring loaded push buttons. At the end of the handle there is a round button, used to release the bayonet from the firearm. Close to the crossguard there is a square button, used to release the bayonet from the scabbard. The scabbard is in blued steel.
Danish use
Right before the end of WWII the Danes bought 1,600 M/1894 carbines with bayonets, for use by the Swedish Brigade in Sweden. These bayonet was probably never used. The Danish Brigade was not activated before the 5. May 1945, at the same day as the German forces surrendered in Denmark.
